What Are My Expectations on Writing Assignments

1. I understand that the students have other assignments, yet, they must write weekly, if not, daily so that we can improve skill sets. So I will always weigh the amount of time it would take me to finish the assignment and I add extra days. A hand-written 2-page paper can be written in about 15 minutes. I know because we started the year doing that exercise.
2. Papers must have the following guidelines: 
• 12-point, times new roman or arial font. 
• 1-inch margins 
• left-adjusted. 
• There should be no spaces in between paragraphs. Only a indentation at the beginning of each paragraph.
3. All papers must meet length requirements. A 3-page paper must be 3 pages. 2 and 15/16 of a page may be tolerated in the case of an already thoroughly written paper. 

"Space fillers" will not be tolerated. The paper will be returned without a grade so don't do it. "Space fillers" include:

• extra spaces between paragraphs and words. 
• use of pictures and graphs 
• extra large titles
• unnecessary bullets. 
• repetitive sentences
• large or bolded fonts

I have either used or invented most of these ways of "lengthening" a paper. I find their use unacademic and unacceptable. 

I have explained these requirements to my students numerous times.
